ABOUT

Purpose
  1. Invite people to assist me in my research of this now defunct company (Aluminium Extrusions Metalex Pty Ltd);
  2. Share as much info as I already have about the factory and its great people;
  3. Tell the stories that connect my life to the experiences there.
Background

Aluminium Extrusions Metalex Pty Ltd  commenced operations in about 1962, in the Melbourne suburb of Huntingdale, Victoria, Australia. The factory complex made up a significant part of the Ogden Industries/Lockwood factory precinct.

As the name suggests, Aluminium Extusions Metalex Pty Ltd was a factory complex centred around the extrusion, distribution and remelting of aluminium products. It was surrounded by:

North Side - Edward Street;
East Side - Huntingdale Road;
South Side - Croft Street ;
West Side - Moller Street.

Following a take-over by the Crane Group, the factoy was demolished some time after 2001 with its 100+ employees presumably made redundant. This was mentioned in a share holder report published in 2002 (Page 14).

My Connection

I worked at Aluminium Extrusions Pty Ltd during my high school summer holidays between 1988 and 1995 - the factory's shut-down period, employed predominantly as a Tradesman's Assistant (TA). My experiences while working there had a huge impact on who I was to become - and constructively influenced me personally and my approach to the workplace ever since.

I owe much to the people and the hard work. This was a place that rewarded discipline and fooling around all at the same time. And I think it marked the beginning of my fascination for all things industrial.

Thank you for your time.
